FERNANDO’S fantasy
Outline: OG of heaven on a plate
Am I right to say that Nando’s is one of the best places to eat ... America is missing out big time. The restaurant is amazing. The menu caters for vegetarians easily. You can order your meal in different ways - burger, pitta or wrap. The flavours are amazing on their own, but you can choose from the scale of heat - plain to extra hot, which I can imagine will leave you needing a jug of milk. My favourite meal is the supergreen. On its own; with a side or with two, the three types of supergreen options are all the same price and all below £10. The sides are yummy as fuck. They have perfectly cooked chips, creamy arse mash, corn, salad, macho peas, garlic bread, coleslaw, spicy rice and super grains. The water is really fresh and they have salt shakers in the shape of an egg which is so fricking cute.

Carv-TASTROPHIE
Outline: sticking to the famous dish from now on.
A carvery is a carvery. They’re bloody gorgeous no matter where you go, who doesn’t love a roast. The problem with the stone house is that it’s probably the only great feature they have. The menu is very small with the same meals mentioned multiple times. There is about 4 veggie options 1 vegan option and nothing stood out to me for allergy advise such as nut and gluten free choices. The pizza I ordered I ate less than half, it was way too crunchy and I took off the toppings as they were in large piles rather than spread evenly. My friend ordered pasta which came in it’s starter size even though she specifically mentioned it’s the main meal she ordered. The starters were super tasty but the cheesy garlic bread was more of a thin, crispy, and tasteless wafer. It’s a very friendly environment but it’s very much an independent restaurant, meaning you have to seat yourself, menus are already on the table, you have to go up to order, collect food and ask for the bill. 293-295 Peacehaven BN10 7HX
No sliVer spoons
Out line: I probably should’ve chosen something else to eat.
Weatherspoon’s has a limited amount of non meat meals. They had a good deal of two meals for just under £10 and had the option to change the all day breakfast/bangers and mash sausages to veggie. I chose, stupidly, the noodles with edamame beans and veg. When it came to our table about a year later, it looked like a pile of crap that someone had thrown across the room and caught in a bowl. Tasted like it too; slightly bitter, slightly metallic and too crunchy. I also asked for no onions which they chose to ignore. My friends ordered a cheese pizza that tasted worse than the £1 Morrison’s frozen pizza, and a burger and chips which i believe was actually standard. For the low price you can’t complain too much, but I would now only go there for the alcohol - £6.50 for a jug of brightly coloured booze isn’t something I would turn down.

Smashed it
Out line: felt like I was eating clouds from heaven.
Everyone is invited to the amazing burger station no matter what issues you have with food. Smash burger manage to cater for basically everyone with not just one option but with a whole menu you can add to and change to suit your needs. When I go to a restaurant I normally don’t have to struggle for choice; there’s normally 5 maximum veggie options and one vegan. However, smash burger know how to do food the right way with a whole alternative menu by “the not beef burger co” that’s just a bit smaller than the normal menu which I imagine is a grade standard. It includes 10 alternative burgers, 8 butternut and chickpea burgers, 3 Tripoli’s burgers, a mushroom cup burger, a create your own section with amazing choices along with sides and salads of course. You get the opportunity to make everything on the list vegan or gluten free and can upgrade to a meal which includes a drink (a range of fizzy drinks with multiple flavours) and chips. I ordered an avocado portobello mushroom cup burger with lettuce and vegan mayo on a gluten free bun. I made it a meal and added a vegan milkshake, equalling to £10.75 with 25% student discount. The meal was crazy good! The mushroom was full of flavour and the bun didn’t taste too different too a normal bun, just a little dry. The chips were quite salty but not greasy at all which is such a bonus because they don’t make you feel sick. The vanilla milkshake was incredible. I’ve never tasted a vegan milkshake that’s so thick and yummy. They fill the cup to the top and give you the extra in a silver shaker similar to American diners. The staff were really friendly and I’m definitely going back to try everything else on the menu.

FRANKLY magnificent
Outline: 50% comfort 50% yum.
Cold or hot, the £6.55 tomato, mozzarella and basil sourdough pizza from Franco Manca is banging. The pizza is a delicious thin base, which I don’t normally like, and has a nice amount of stretch to it. The basil I didn’t like, the pizza wasn’t flavoured by basil and when there was a piece it was too overpowering. The cheese was so good though, not a cheese obsessor but would definitely eat a lot their cheese pizza. Normally, I find the crusts over cooked or too dry, but this had a nice balance of softness and taste. The pizza is fired in a pizza oven,so does have an annoying charcoal taste to it, but it’s great to sit and watch them make it from scratch while waiting on food which is relatively fast. You can order online and take away with a small folded menu explaining how they make their food and prices of food all under £10.

Pho-nominal
Out line: a warming hearty meal, much like Santa. I ordered the Phò XAào - tofu and mushroom wok fried noodles for £8.75. The whole meal fitted really well as one piece, as all of the ingredients complimented one another. The meal came on a platter in three parts; the noodles, the bean sprouts and soy sauce (of which they ask if you would prefer soy or fish sauce). The bean sprouts were placed to the side and were refreshingly cold, but very plain in contrast to the noodles. The hairs on the end of the sprouts are left on which some people may not like. The noodles are soft, thin and slippery. If you’re not good with chopsticks you need to ask for cutlery, although as far as they go the chopsticks didn’t leave a wooden taste behind. The tofu served was soft but chewable. It soaked up a lot of flavour due to its bubbly texture. Any mushrooms were saturated with flavour but there could’ve been a few more. The chillies and sugar snap peas are super fresh, crunchy and brought bright colours to the dish. I was given a small bowl of soy sauce to pour over the noodles which flavoured it enough; the downside being a salty meal but no over powering. Towards the end of the meal the temperature of the food dipped a bit probably due to me not being able to eat the amount given quick enough. I ordered an ice tea priced at £2.25 which was amazing. It didn’t taste too much like tea and was mild in taste but the mint and sugar worked well in polarity. 12 Black lion street Brighton BN1 1ND
